People Have Asked What Does LMA Mean

You may be asking the same question. Here is what “LMA” means. It has several different meanings, but it's very personal to me. It is named after a saying that came from my father. As for Rick & I as part of our business LMA Woodworking it means “Love Me Always.” We want you to love the memories that you have with the pieces we make or to relive the memories that a piece has in your heart.

Rick has been in business since 1986 and worked with wood, making and personalizing wood plaques and making wood signs, However, Rick and I have been doing woodworking for several years, mostly as a hobby until now. It has always been a love of mine to repurpose old, unwanted, furniture with a story to tell. I like to pick up pieces of furniture that talks to me. No, do not think I have lost my mind and that I talk to furniture, or it talks back to me, but I do spend a lot of time before I figure out what the piece will look like and what it can be used for when I am finished with it. Just as my dad had always waited for his projects to talk back to him. You can read more about us on our About Us Page

Recently I found an old chair that was talking to me, Rick thought it would make good firewood, but I brought it home, so it was MINE…. lol. After I sat with it for a few days, I began to remove the covered seat.  When I took off the cover that was on it, I found what I thought to be the original seat covering, looking to be close to one hundred years old. I continued to refinish this. When I put the seat back together, I placed the original seat covering under the new one with the chair. This way if someone recovers it in the future, they will hear the story that it has to tell.

Rick likes to make pieces that are personalized, like names for nurseries or wall décor. He really does wonderful work. He spends lot of time with the customer to make sure that it is exactly like what the person wants. If you have an idea of something that you want, contact us and Rick will collaborate with you on your project.

I know some of you are still wondering what the saying was from my father. If any of you knew my father, you will get a good laugh out of this, or you might have just heard him say it. He was a maintenance person for the State of Ohio and loved to tell stories. He was a very hard-working hands-on type of person.  He would get irritated with someone, or something was not working the way he thought it should be and he would say “Lick My Ass.” It was better than some things I heard him say growing up. He is my father and believe me I heard a lot of things said around the house and in his workshop out in the barn.

So, you can say that this is my way of keeping a part of my Father's memory alive who also loved woodworking and to this day we still have and use some of his tools in our wood shop that mean the world to me. And as for the LMA yes Dad, Love Me Always as I will Love You Always and keep your memory alive as part of LMA Woodworking.
